Pop Diva Mariah Carey succeeds Jennifer Lopez



After weeks of speculations, the accomplished songwriter and multiple award winning musician, Mariah Carey was today announced the new judge for the American Idol.


The singer was unveiled today by Fox Broadcasting Company as the new judge

The news was announced this morning by Fox President Kevin Reilly .She is to replace Jennifer Lopez on the 12th season of the American idol.

Jennifer Lopez, who left last week, left a trail of controversy, as it was alleged that she was kicked out of American Idol by Fox Net. Jennifer however, maintains that she left because of Tyler’s exit.

Countering her claims, reports in The Los Angeles Times and Thewrap.com, stated that Jennifer was dumped by [U.S. network] Fox after asking for a $2 million raise in salary.

Mariah Carey salary is said to be $18m for her first year on the show, making her the highest paid judge on reality TV, according to TMZ.  Jennifer was paid $12m during her first season of the show and $15m this year.

Nick Cannon, prior to the announcement said that American Idol could not afford his talented wife.
Nick told website TMZ: "I don't know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That's a lot of money. If they gave J-Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!"

Jennifer Lopez in statement, following the announcement said: 'She's a musician for a long time she has a lot of experience. And it's that experience you offer them at the end of the day, the contestants just want to get better and grow through the process.'

The mother of 14-month-old twins Moroccan and Monroe is set to release a new album as she has been in the studio recording with producer Rodney Jerkins.
