Davido and HKN Gang Lock Down Lagos State With O.B.O: The Genesis

On Sunday July 22, 2012 the commercial nerve center of Nigeria, Lagos state was literally paused for over 7 hours for just one reason: the official launch of Davido’s debut album O.B.O, the Genesis.

Arguably the most anticipated album of 2012, the media buzz and hype that preluded the concert was second to none, a fact which became more apparent as the exclusive black carpet kicked off at the exquisite Eko Hotel and Suites. A horde of celebrities from all the different facets of the Nigerian entertainment industry lit the black carpet in their various hip-hop inspired ensembles.

Sasha P, Kenny Ogungbe, I.D Ogungbe, D.J Jimmy Jatt, D J Caise, Funke Akindele, Flowssick, Yemi Alade, Omo Akin, A.Y, Freeze,  Eku Edewor, Yvonne Ekwere, FEMI,  Minjin, Joeland many more, all stepped on the black carpet looking glam, to grant interviews and pose for paparazzi.

When the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel was finally opened to the mammoth crowd that had trudged to the venue, it was a series of back to back exhilarating performances from Davido and his HKN gang. Fans were pleasantly surprised when the stage was turned into a makeshift restaurant for the performance of the monster hit, ‘Carolina’ by Saucekid now known as Sinzu SMG and ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ himself, Davido.  May D, Kay Switch and Iyanya also added more oomph to the essence of the night as they dished out hits upon hits from their repertoires.

However, the highpoint on the night for me was the performance of the ‘Koko Master’ D’banj and the latest hubby in town, Naeto C. Fans, especially the females screamed their lungs out as the duo chanted the snazzy and self-adulating lyrics from their latest collaboration ‘Tony Montana’.

Although, i might not want to spend that sort of staggering amount to see Davido a second time, it was really a fantastic show and it lived up to its billing!
